Pitkin Solar is a 5 MWac project operating in Pitkin County, Colorado. The project has been delivering clean, low-cost energy to the surrounding community since November 2021.

Pitkin Solar is carefully sited on 35 acres owned by the Aspen Sanitation District and serves energy to Holy Cross Energy, an electric co-op serving almost 45,000 members in Western Colorado.

Pitkin Solar is focused on providing safe delivery of clean energy to the Roaring Fork Valley. It has bridged partnerships with local advocates to preserve the landscape. Primergy implemented a low-impact construction method that eliminated the need for scraping during construction, and with this method, wildlife habitat is maintained.

Project Overview

The project benefits

At Primergy, we develop solar projects with communities at the center, prioritizing local partnerships, environmental stewardship, and long-term impact. Our approach provides energy solutions that respect the land, empower people, and create sustainable value.

Preserving Rural Lands

Pitkin Solar is carefully sited on 35 acres owned by the Aspen Sanitation District, and serves 5 MW of clean energy to Holy Cross Energy, an electric co-op serving almost 45,000 members in Western Colorado. The project commenced operation in November 2021. The project is located near Woody Creek in the Roaring Fork Valley on land leased from the Aspen Consolidated Sanitation District.

Holistic Approach to Development

Pitkin Solar is focused on providing safe delivery of clean energy to the Roaring Fork Valley. It has bridged partnerships with the local advocates to preserve the landscape in its native form. Primergy implemented a low-impact construction method “No Grade, Low Touch” that eliminated the need for scraping during construction. With this method, wildlife habitat is maintained for the native rabbits, deer and birds. This method of construction is employed at other Primergy sites and is a part of our holistic approach to development. We hope that these approaches are adopted by other infrastructure developers and can become a widely used method of constructing clean energy projects that minimize impact to open spaces.

Environment and Grid Resiliency

Pitkin Solar is generating 5 MWac of solar, which is enough clean reliable energy to power up to 900 homes annually. Electricity generated with solar panels emits no greenhouse gases and no air or water pollutants. Primergy is committed to enhancing Colorado’s energy mix and independence with clean, local projects such as Pitkin Solar.
